Can’t afford any of the plans in my state during special enrollment period and in a lot of pain. What should I do?

Hello everyone. Background: I am 21M from Texas with a sister(23) and mother(57). Our father passed away recently and our priorities have been all over the place. We weren’t able to enroll in healthcare during open enrollment and we did not file taxes.

My mother is needy and has a hypothyroid disorder that she needs constant medication for. I want to try and get her to a doctor so that they can keep prescribing her. And for me, I have an ear infection that’s really painful and is extending to my jaw and worrying me. I have had this infection for almost a week and want antibiotics.

I reached out to some insurance agents to help us and they informed us that we have very low income since our dad passed away and that we should qualify for medicaid. We have a yearly income of about 11,984. I tried to talk to the Medicaid office and they told me that since we have no children or have no disability, we don’t qualify for medicaid.

So then I talked to the health insurance marketplace and told them that our income is practically poverty level and that we need insurance that is affordable. All of the options that I got were matching up to how much we already barely pay for rent. It’s too expensive! The lowest being at around 400 for each individual even with 0 deductible.

All I want is to be able to visit a doctor to make this pain go away and it’s really frustrating. I hope someone could offer me some advice on what they think the best course of action is. I could really use it. Thanks.
