Hoping someone can provide some insight here 😃 neither my fiancé or I are offered health benefits through our jobs. He and I both at different times have opted for non ACA complaint short term health insurance plans due to the low cost of premiums.
We are getting married June 2022, and I had considered going through the marketplace for my insurance because there’s a chance we may start TTC before Jan 2023.
My question is – If I were to enroll in a short term plan for now (just to have some coverage in case of a catastrophic event) to save some money, once we get married in June, will I have the option to enroll through the marketplace at that time with a special enrollment period, regardless of his benefit selections? I wasn’t sure if the special enrollment period is only for an instance such as joining a spouses insurance plan?
TIA!
