Choosing between UHC Bronze (PPO with HSA) vs Gold (PPO w/o HSA)

Hello –

My wife is currently joining a new company and is trying to choose between two plans.

They barely differ in prices, I guess the biggest difference is HSA offering and seemingly overall better plan of Gold plan.

– UHC Gold PPO

Monthly $4.96

Deductible: $1000

OOP Max: $5000

No HSA

– UHC Bronze PPO

Monthly free

Deductible: $6350

OOP Max: $6350

Yes HSA

Employer HSA contribution: $60 monthly

I could post the whole benefits summary here too but my guess is that gold is generally better than bronze (Even though there are some things like…. Copay is 35 for gold, and 0 for bronze?? I hate the insurance system). Not sure what other benefits or coverages we should be looking at since we cant really plan for … being sick.

We have a healthy ~27 year old couple.

What do you guys recommend?

Also as a side question, she used to be under my plan, and now that her company offers an insurance plan, I plan on dropping her from my plan so we can save some $$ monthly. I heard double insurance only causes headache without much benefits. Is this true? If so, it’s probably smart to just both be on each company’s free plan right?
