Uncommon scenario – I know – but maybe someone had to do something similar, in the past: planning to leave my job on July 1st, to prepare for a permanent move outside US, with a departure date of sometimes early Sept. In order to reduce the risk of any health related issues, I would like to extend my present employer healthcare insurance, via COBRA, with the following requirements, considering the very critical issue of losing control over mailing and other more direct communication means, traditionally associated with such processes (mail in forms, mail out …, etc.), once out of US:
only two months (July and Aug)
start immediate upon employment termination, as the alleged 60 days within which my employer is obligated to send the paperwork, under the law, would put receipt and associated enrollment response outside my departure window
would any medical interventions still be processed by the existing health plan, or how/where would the doctor(s) send their service invoices, if “COBRA” will be “in flight”?
any other options?
The reason of thinking about COBRA is that I wouldn’t have to then undergo yet another process of updating health insurance with the medical service providers, once the existing health plan rejects their submissions, to then having to clarify all that’s required when out of the country, etc., etc.
