I am relatively healthy 37 year old male who mainly goes to the doctor for a physical or to the dermatologist. I recently left my job and have been paying for COBRA for the last few months which is very expensive – $700 per month.
I am looking for a new job and hope to have one in the next few months but of course no guarantees there. So I’m not really planning on using the COBRA insurance and it’s expensive but I’m also wary of not having good coverage if I need it which I have with COBRA.
I viewed TriTerm plans on United Healthcare and found one for $200 per month with a $2,500 deductible and $4,500 out of pocket maximum and 70/30 coinsurance. You can’t go in for preventative care until you’ve been on the insurance for 6 months and eligible expenses for preexisting conditions are covered after 12 months.
Any thoughts on the best route?
If I were to sign up for the TriTerm and found out I had a condition say one month into the term, this wouldn’t be considered a preexisting condition and I could get treatment right away?
I checked Healthcare.gov too and can get a plan for $375 but it’s not really good so I don’t think I’ll go that route. But is there thought that President Biden may bring back the penalty for not having ACA compliant insurance?
Thanks for your help! I can provide additional info if need be.
