Company is charging me more than I agreed to for benefits

So I originally got a job here in Missouri, US in November of last year. It was a union position and the benefits were about $166 a pay period. I didn’t start getting benefits until November. I chose an aethna gold plan.

During November I received a promotion to a company position(no longer union) and had to re enroll for benefits. On the portal the prices for benefits we’re all the same as before so I made the same selections and accepted it. Fortunately I printed my elections at the time.

I came to find out this last month that they’ve actually been charging me sometimes as much as $355 a paycheck and on my benefits portal it shows all my benefits as being nearly double the price I agreed to. I’ve contacted them many times and it’s always the same thing. They insist that’s what I signed up for and that there’s nothing they can do unless I have a ‘life event’.

Here’s a breakdown of what I’ve done so far. February 25th; I uploaded my documents that show what I was looking at when I signed up for my benefits and filed a claim for the discrepancy. I was told they’d call me in the next couple days to figure it out. They wound up dismissing it saying that the benefits on my printout we’re last year’s benefits and I had signed up for this year’s benefits.

I explained to them on the phone again that the webpage did not reflect the true prices and it let me sign up for the false prices. That I would not have made these selections had I know the true price because I cannot afford this.

I haven’t heard back yet, but before the phone call ended I was told that they will probably say the same thing and that I should look for insurance elsewhere.

Couple things I think are important.

While on the phone today I did print out all of my benefits dating back to November when I first got them. I also printed all my pay stubs with the amount taken out of them.

After printing all of this and filing today’s claim I was immediately locked out of the portal and can no longer log in. It tells me I either logged in too many times, or I have been locked out; I only logged in once and entered my information correctly the first time so I believe I was actually locked out for some other reason.

I went ahead and filed a complaint with the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance whom I believe is the equivalent of the Insurance Ombudsman I had been told to contact. I did this because I don’t have time to waste when they are taking so much money.

This is a really huge deal for me. Because if this I can’t afford groceries, pet food or other essentials and I’m on the verge of losing my apartment. I’m worried this will even put my job in jeopardy. I’ve gone into a lot of debt trying to keep up with things and haven’t been able to save anything and I feel like they aren’t taking that seriously.

***Too be clear, I’m not asking for money, just help securing my own in this case. Thank you for any advice you may have for. I’ll try to answer questions to the best of my abilities.
