I am on Medicare and have Anthem Blue Cross through my previous employer. My wife is also covered under Anthem through me, but she never uses it because she has her own insurance with Aetna.
My wife went through cancer treatments last year and is now in remission. Throughout her cancer treatment and now remission, she has exclusively used Aetna. Aetna has covered everything: doctors, in-home care, imaging, surgery, chemo, radiation, prescriptions, etc. The problem is she has a very stressful job and is finding it harder and harder to work and deal with her medication side effects. She would like to quit her job.
If she quits her job, she would lose her Aetna coverage. So, she would then use Anthem. What is making her very hesitant about quitting her job is her concern that she might not receive all of the medical, hospital, drug, and other treatments that have been needed to get her this far and beyond. One of her medications is very very very expensive.
If she begins using Anthem, will they see her cancer as a pre-existing condition? Will they deny any of the care she is now receiving and expected to receive for the duration of her remission? Will they cut corners to save money?
Bottom line, we want her current and future medical care concerning her cancer to continue seemlessly without any interruption or debate. Should we be concerned or does the fact she is already covered by Anthem (although never used) put her in a good place?
