I have an “interesting” situation regarding Covered CA. I qualified for Covered California back in December 2021 to start in January 2022, so I’ve been making payments on my selected Blue Shield plan since then. First I qualified for Medi-Cal then updated my information and got approved for Covered California. The interesting thing is I just got a letter from Blue Shield and Covered California saying that my Blue Shield insurance from Covered California was terminated. The reason they gave was that they could not verify my citizenship, yet nothing in my approved application gave that impression. It’s interesting because how could my application have been approved before and that I have been having insurance a few months yet now they’re saying they can’t verify my citizenship. I even called Covered California and spoke with someone and they could not see any flags or see a reason for someone from the county even Medi-Cal having to go in and change things. All they say is that they can see that someone went in and made a note about not verifying citizenship and I got dropped from both Medi-Cal and Covered California in one swoop. Apparently someone from the county office flagged it for some reason and I cannot figure out why. While on the phone with the representative from Covered California they even escalated it to a higher-up and Covered CA themselves tried resubmitting my application to see if it would prompt for verification of citizenship and even then it did not prompt for any. Yet still, I don’t have coverage (which I actually did from January until this month) and no one can give me a reason why there is an issue.
Has anyone else had a similar issue or known of this happening?
