I recently had a few pretravel COVID tests performed at a local clinic. We have BCBS and a few weeks ago received ~$1700 in ‘reimbursements’ from them.
We have a number of regular, rolling out of network reimbursement requests we submit so we just deposited them like we do all others and went on our merry way.
We got a call shortly after from the clinic saying they spoke to BCBS and the checks meant for them were sent to us, so now we have to pay the clinic.
Recognizing that the insurance co is paying $450 per test as an obscene state of affairs is one thing, but I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing here and am obligated to pay them directly now.
I’m not looking to get ‘free money’, but I’m also not interested in paying the clinic while the insurance company is going to send me a bill as well or may have sent them corrected checks and written it off.
Am I simply meant to pay the clinic and assume the matter is closed? Since the clinic is now billing me directly should I be paying what their ‘street rate’ is?
Thanks in advance reddit for any help!
