I’m in Virginia.
So my last day with my prior employer was 8/27. First day with new employer 9/7.
Benefits kick in 31 days after employment so roughly 10/7.
I have until I believe, 11/2 to enroll in COBRA, and my understanding is it’s retroactive coverage? It’s like $700. I’m questioning if I need this or if since I can get it retroactively, why not wait until 10/7 and ensure I have no major health events (hospitalization)?
I don’t need any co pays or deductibles for health care in the next 30 days.
Am I gaming the system by doing this, or is this acceptable to do? If I was hospitalized and applied for cobra after, what would happen? Hopefully you all can see where my train of thought is here, trying to save $700 if I can. Please let me know if you need clarifying info.
