Do I owe more on my deductible if the bill wasn’t processed until after the new year?

I had elbow surgery on Sept 14, 2021, and I paid my deductible in full ($1,700) on Sept 9, 2021. Both the hospital and my insurance company (Anthem Blue Cross) say that I still owe $988.23 on my deductible, and I think that’s because the bill wasn’t processed until 2022, but I’ve had no hospital care in 2022, so I definitely don’t owe anything on my deductible. I have no idea how to proceed, as I’ve contacted both the hospital and the insurance company and filed an appeal, but haven’t heard anything. Am I wrong, and do I owe more simply because the bill wasn’t processed until this year? The bill that says I owe $988.23 is dated September 14, 2021, so it’s not like the date of service is dated 2022.
