Does Medicare cover past bills? Went through an emergency.

Hi, A few hours ago my dad fell from a step ladder and was hurt in the back. We noticed a protrusion in his spine and immediately called 911 since we couldn’t move him to the car.

Because of covid hospital is nor allowing any visitors and we’re as of now clueless to what is happening in regards of treatment.

He is 65+ and unfortunately has no insurance. We were planning to get him on Medicare (In VA). I want to ask what would be the best way to deal with the inevitable medical bills (Ambulance, ER involved). If we were to get him on Medicare in near future, will it cover current bills?

Please, do advise what our next steps should be.

Thanks
