So my long-term partner who I share bills with, have a joint checking account with and live with is losing their health insurance because their father is retiring. We currently reside in the state of New Jersey however my employer is located in Delaware. The state of New Jersey has a state mandate that your employer needs to offer your health insurance to your domestic partner if they are long-term, live together and you share bills. When I asked my employer about this they told me that they do not extend the offers to domestic partnerships since they are Delaware company. Because I live in New Jersey would I be able to get an affidavit or try and fight the insurance company to get my partner on my insurance plan for their medical needs? We are at a loss on what to do and do not wish to run off and get eloped for the sack of health insurance.
