Hi there, I’m unemployed in LA, and I applied for open enrollment for Medical in late December, but it’s still “under review” and I haven’t received a packet or anything yet. I’m new to Medical and have never applied before.
Anyway, I went to the dentist the other day, and they found a bump inside my throat and said to monitor it myself and let them know if it hasn’t gone away in a week so they can refer me to an oral surgeon to see if it’s dangerous. Im so worried and I have SO many questions. I appreciate any and all help!
Does an oral surgeon even fall under the category of health insurance or would that be considered dental? And does it matter?
I hear pre-existing conditions can no longer prevent you from getting health insurance, but can they make your rates more expensive? I’m concerned that if I report to the dentist the bump is still there, it’ll go down on record as a pre-existing condition and skyrocket the rate I’d have to pay, and I can’t afford that. Will it affect the health insurance I’m able to get if I see the oral surgeon before figuring out my health insurance situation?
Suppose I get insurance of some kind, and this thing in my throat ends up being an issue down the line. If i switch health insurance companies in the future, will the fact that my throat has been an issue affect the rates/health care plans I’m able to get?
Thanks again!
