For background, the last few months have been a little crazy for us. My husband and I have both switched jobs and insurance is in the works but doesn’t start until next month. A few months back, hubby was admitted for what turned out to be septic shock and while there they found his umbilical hernia he had repaired a few years back had torn again. Fast forward to now, he’s in agonizing pain and convinced his intestines have moved in to the hernia space. Between his other surgeries the last few years, and his old insurance fighting on what they’ll cover we’re currently about $65k in medical debt (working with an advocate to drop hopefully a good amount of that but that’s where it stands right now). He tried calling the hospital and they said they don’t have price sheets for anything and we would have to wait for the bill.
Is there any way to get something going that will help with the er trip he’s going to make? Our insurance through marketplace won’t start til first of next month. His boss is looking into whatever insurance is offered through QuickBooks if anybody knows how that is? Or what the cap usually is for financial assistance at the hospital? Anything really?
