Hey all, I haven’t been in the workforce long and this is my first time changing jobs/employer health insurance, so I have a few questions and I wasn’t sure where to ask.
I quit my job in early February and started a new role in late February. I thought my former company’s health insurance (Cigna) would be active until the end of February and I’d be on my new company’s plan (United) in March. My new company is switching to Cigna effective April.
I logged into Cigna to get my new plan details and I noticed that my former health insurance is still active. Is this a glitch? Does it just take time for the portal to update? I’m still able to book doctors appointment online and the clinic’s online portal shows my health insurance/copay as active.
I’ve been waiting for my new plan to start in April so I can optimize my deductible and etc. However, my old insurance was really good so I’d love to use it now instead of waiting until April since I haven’t seen my doctors this month. But I’m not sure if I’ll be back charged or something like that if it was supposed to expire at the end of February. Does this lag with health insurance happen often?
One other thing to note is that another perk/benefit from my old company (gym/ClassPass membership) hasn’t expired either. I’m thinking another possibility is that my old company just hasn’t updated my benefit details?
Thanks for any insight.
