ER Visit charges after global payments towards labor & delivery

I am having a baby in July, and I have been having to pay “global” payments every month towards my labor and delivery.

When I found out about this, they explained they basically calculate the estimated cost of labor & delivery, then my insurance says what my deductible + costs would be and I pay it all upfront with monthly payments throughout my pregnancy.

My deductible is $2,000 and my out of pocket is $3,000. My plan pays 80%. To date, I have paid $1,668.18 to the hospital since my first prenatal appointment for all of this.

Well last month I had a trip to the ER. It was completely unrelated to pregnancy, but I got an insurance-adjusted bill from the hospital saying I owed nearly $2,000 for the visit….

My problem is, I have already paid $1,668.18, but those payments do not show up towards my deductible on my insurance portal. It’s like the hospital is collecting the money but not submitting anything until I actually give birth, which is an issue because my deductible should already be close to being met. I can’t fork out an additional $2,000 when I have paid almost that much already.

I understand I will still have some payment responsibility for the ER visit, but it should not be that amount when my deductible is almost met.

How do I go about dealing with this? Is this an issue I speak with the hospital billing department with, or my insurance company?
