My family and I have been on Medicaid since the pandemic started, due to lay-off, etc.
My latest renewal period was in September 2021, which also was the time I was finally starting a new job back in my normal career field. I filed my income change with the state, and they rightfully cancelled our SNAP/EBT benefits, but renewed our Medicaid for another year.
While that was processing, I went ahead an found a plan on the ACA that worked for us, since I figured the state would drop us due to income change. It never happened!
When I finally did get through to the state agency, the rep said they renewed us due to Covid, and yes they had received the info on my income change but they were renewing us anyways.
Cut to November, technically we are double-covered for now but ACA is going to drop us since we are still on Medicaid.
However I just got diagnosed with cancer. The oncology hospital team I want to go with is covered by Medicaid — the question is, will I get better care if I’m on private (ACA) insurance or on Medicaid? I can try to get off of Medicaid and stay on private. But if the care is going to be the same, and the state insists on covering me, should I just stay with them?
