I wasn’t sure which flair to use so please correct if I need a different one. I have a group HMO plan under Anthem both for medical and dental. I’ll try to keep this short, but as part of my ortho treatment, I need a palatal impacted canine tooth extracted in a hospital setting. My regular dental office cannot do it as it is “too much surgery” that requires anesthesia and all of that. All the oral surgery centers anywhere in the general area do not accept my insurance, and in fact do not accept HMOs at all. So I had a consultation to see what my out of pocket cost would be and was quoted $1,513. I’m really not ok with that, BUT I cannot move forward with braces until this tooth is out. I have brackets with no archive, so I am paying for braces without the benefit of having them. I need this corrected quickly (ortho clinic said they will prorate my monthly payments for the time spent before the wire is placed).
Anyway, I have booked an appointment now for the surgery for May 27. I want to see if I can get my insurance to even partially cover out of network for this, but where do I start? I have no clue what to do or if it is even possible.
