Got a job offer but they can’t tell me what the insurance cost will be?

I asked about the employee cost for the health insurance for employee + spouse + children coverage and I was told they cover the employee portion completely and cover 25% of dependents premiums. They said the exact costs would be calculated with my personal details and I might be able to find out more by talking to the insurance company directly (BCBS Anthem).

Is this really a thing or am I misunderstanding something? This is strange to me because at my current company they give everyone the same price and it only varies based on dependents (self, self + spouse, self + spouse + children). So I guess I just assumed it worked that way everywhere.
