A little while after the ACA was enacted I signed up for health insurance via the NY exchange. I was told I was eligible for Medicaid and signed up.
I’m disabled and have been disabled for a long time. My disability is not recognized by the government. I’ve known people with the same disability and they’ve had to fight hard to get SSDI. Lawyers and so forth for a paltry amount from the government. So I haven’t tried.
For most of my life my parents have paid for everything. Medical bills, food, rent, etc. As well I have over 100k sitting in the bank. However I haven’t been able to work for 20 years. I figured that money is for when my parents die. But now I’ll be receiving a huge amount of money from them so I figured when it comes I’ll be canceling medicaid and signing up for regular? health insurance through the NJ exchange.
However recently I’ve been learning more about Medicaid. When I singed up I just signed up and didn’t think more about it. So have I been unintentionally defrauding it? I’m afraid to ask the government due to worries about jail. Should I immediately cancel and get regular health insurance? And if so how do I figure out what kind of health insurance is right for me? I haven’t had to figure that out in a long time.
