My employer is offering a HDHP with an HSA. An employee can also choose to get Dental/Vision coverage. I definitely want the HDHP and HSA. I would like Dental/Vision coverage but I’m not sure whether I should choose the employer plan or not. Would I be able to use the HSA funds to pay for dental/vision care without getting the plan? Would my vision/dental expenses be cheaper if I got the dental/vision plan to go along with the HDHP and HSA?
My employer is not contributing anything to the HSA. The HDHP has a monthly premium of $130 and a deductible of $5,000. The dental/vision plan has a monthly premium of $15. Please help me to understand this.
