Health Insurance and Employer Datasets

Hi everyone!

I am looking for data sources that would help me understand the aggregate plan economics of the US and bridge it against employers in the US in order to gain more visibility in the expenditures of insurers such as Aetna and their SEC filings. I’ve combed through a bunch of data on CMS (QHP, RBIS, HIX) and I’ve been able to find plans by insurers but for the most part, it seems there is no information on who buys those plans and how many have enrolled under a particular plan.

So far, I’m only finding the option of paying a ridiculous amount to companies.

Is there any open-source or academic projects that are trying to aggregate this information? Are there sources that I have yet to discover?
