Health insurance got terminated for non-payment and I feel the company (Ambetter) didn’t do an adequate job in notifying me.

I do realize I share some of the blame as I should have looked closer at the emails, but I didn’t realize that Ambetter’s paperless notices could be that inadequate.

I had health insurance with Ambetter for 2021 and didn’t realize my autopay would not continue through the new year like every single other service on the planet.

Every single month, the bill arrives with the subject “Your Paperless Ambetter Bill”. It doesn’t matter if it’s overdue, it never says anything else.

Looking back, I received monthly emails starting in February with the subject line “Your Paperless Notice” which doesn’t scream any urgency. Furthermore, the message preview says “This is a customer service email from Ambetter.” These were apparently super urgent and contained notice of the overdue bills.

I hurt my toe in March of this year and logged into their system to use their in-network guide multiple times. It let me login and didn’t even tell me that my plan wasn’t active and overdue! See screenshot.

And that’s it. I received another “Your Paperless Notice” on April 16 that my account was terminated.

Oh but they were happen to send stupid marketing emails with good subject lines like “Start your new My Health Pays® Challenge!”

I’m pretty frustrated at the whole ordeal and it doesn’t look like I can have real health insurance for the rest of the year. I called Healthcare.gov and they were sympathetic and filed a complaint about Ambetter’s notifications but couldn’t get me enrolled in anything again.

Looking into short term health insurance. Any advice is appreciated.
