Health insurance premiums skyrocket after marriage. What are my options? 27 yo M/F

I recently got married and am looking to get my wife on my health insurance plan. The problem is that the overall monthly payment would be 1400% of my current payment.

I currently make $75k/yr and pay $50 a month for the higher tier insurance provided by my employer (government). I do need the higher tier because I have MS and visit doctor’s frequently. If I am to get my wife on my insurance, the cost would go up to $700 per month. This is not counting other benefits (vision, dental, etc.) that would also increase.

She has not been able to get her own health insurance for many years, so has not been to a doctor in quite some time. We would both like for her to start visiting a doctor to get checked out and get anything she might need to start feeling better.

She is currently working as a nanny with no benefits, and is working on school to get a degree. A full time career may be an option but that would be in the future, and could change if children come into play.

She has looked into some of the marketplace options but says that there seem to be some difficulties with finding anything. I will try to look through this with her.

Neither of us are very familiar with the options that could be available outside of employer sponsored insurance, so I wanted to ask what we can look into.

My current plan is to go ahead and put her on my insurance for the remainder of the year to get started, and we will look into other options to make changes when renewal time comes around.

Edit: First post here, so I guess I need to include that I am in NC (27606)
