Health insurer is requiring my doctor to get BP readings?

A couple of years ago in December, my GP insisted that I come in to have my BP checked even though I had an appointment with my cardiologist the following January. I learned at the time that it had something to do with my health insurance and year-end reporting. I just got a call from a nurse at an alternative medicine (functional medicine) practice where I am a patient who said she wanted me to take a BP measurement at home for “insurance purposes.” Anyone know what’s going on here? Are insurance companies not paying practitioners if they don’t take a BP measurement? My insurance company is Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Massachusetts.
