My mother lives in Michigan just over the Indiana border, is 3 years away from Medicare and is looking for affordable health care options. All of her doctors are across the Indiana state line and she is worried that Obamacare will force her to find Michigan doctors and the cost is higher per month than what she can find outside of the marketplace. But apparently in Michigan you can only get 6 month plans and you’re not allowed to reuse the same company twice in a row? I can’t find the rule that states this, but that’s what her insurance agent told her. So she’s also worried that if anything happens while she is on one plan that she will be considered as having a pre-existing condition when she needs to change plans in 6 months and get denied. For the most part she’s in good health, so I’m not too worried about this… other than Covid, but she’s fairly secluded and has been careful when she does need to go out.
Anyone have any experience with options that will help to keep my Mom’s Indiana doctors while she lives in Michigan, but also something that is affordable and doesn’t need to change every 6 months? I guess it was suggested to use someone else’s address in Indiana, but at the very least I can see the insurance company being able to easily deny major claims if they even casually looked into that.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
