My so-so insurance through work would cost me $220 per pay period (week), which if I’m not mistaken works out to be about ~$800/mo.
I ended up going to the ER for a shoulder issue a while back. That ended up costing me $12k (for an X-ray, valium, morphine shot) which reduced with Cigna down to about $1,000 or so. My point is – the only concern I have is not having to shell out $12k for a visit again as the shoulder’s one wrong move away from popping out again. I don’t care about anything else but unfortunately that’s not how these plans are set up.
Perusing Nevada Health Link website – at ~$460/mo, the two plans I linked to seem like they’d work for my situation while costing half what I’d pay through my work. What I’m confused about is what “20% coinsurance, no charge after deductible” means. 20% of 12 grand is $2400 on top of $1450 deductible totaling $3850. So which is it? Is it coinsurance at 20% past deductible or is the deductible the max I’d have to pay for an ER visit?
Lastly, am I reading it right that the first plan by SelectHealth would take care of an ER visit with a $350 copay only, the tradeoff being measly $10 more per month?
Please offer me an egg in this trying time 🙂 Any advice appreciated.
