HealthNet cancelled my insurance on April and I didn’t know til two weeks ago. Can I apply for a different (and better) insurance company right now? Will that effect applying to others?

I’m 27. I’m not dependent. I am going to find my first job soon but after I complete my driving classes, which I haven’t even enrolled in yet. I’m lagging in life for my age. My mom was handling my payments and she had a visa card specifically made for ONLY healthnet payments. But for some reason they claimed she didn’t pay even though in transaction history she did pay the same amount she usually does but it said “PAID – THANK YOU” instead of “HEALTHNET”. So you can see why we’d be confused… paid but where did the money go? Bank doesnt know. Healthnet on the phone said they didn’t get anything. The amount is about the same as she usually paid every month and we called the card and they didn’t even know where the transaction was charged to. She thought she was paying healthnet bill and even paid a late fee for the card company because she paid thru mail. Healthnet on the phone was a bit mean and made me feel shaky talking on the phone like I’m doomed. They told me I couldn’t get my insurance back until they review everything for a reinstatement, which I got a call for today but I havent answered only left on voice mail because I was doing my covid test at the same time i got that call. I am healthy right now but just want to be safe in case anything happens.

My dad passed in 2019 and I used to be with Kaiser with his plan but when I turned 25 I had to do a different one.

I’m going to sign up for my own bank account today that is only for me not tied with my moms account and from then on I’ll monitor my own payments.

I just feel stressed. I’m a shy person and nervous on the phone so I always had my parents talk for me for serious stuff like this but I’m trying my best these days to open up more. I’m not sure what to do. I thought I cant enroll for insurance until the start of the year… but my relatives in the medical field say the opposite.

I also heard i can apply for medi fresh or something like that with medicaid. not sure… im in california btw thanks
