Hello,
I was recently fired from my position on 12/2 or 12/3, and in this job I had employer-provided healthcare (BCBS PPO). I live in Chicago, IL. From everything I have read, COBRA seems like it will be very expensive, so I am looking into ACA or finding my own plan via BCBS (likely the later).
It appears the open enrollment deadline to file for coverage starting in Jan 2022 is today, 12/15/21. I am wondering if, because of my recent termination less than 2 weeks ago, if i would have any sort of extension of my deadline?
Since my termination, I have been looking into healthcare, attempting to file for unemployment (very tedious due to a fraudulent filing under my name in August), etc.
A week and a half to decide on a plan is very short notice. Also, whether or not my unemployment claim is approved will heavily affect which plan i choose, and I am not sure when I will know if my unemployment claim will be accepted / approved.
I am a 32-yr-old male with high blood pressure for which I take medication for. I take a few scripts (BP meds, antidepressant, allergy med). I don’t want to jump the gun and pick a plan that isn’t the best for me.
If anyone is aware about filing deadlines / extensions due to termination, or can shed any light on my particular situation, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
I’ve been calling BCBS all day today and every time i call, I am transferred to another department and then my call is dropped…
