Hi there! I’m not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this question so feel free to redirect me if there is somewhere better.
Background: My child was covered by insurance through my husband’s work but that was terminated on 12/31/2020. The child was covered by the Oregon State Children’s Health Insurance Program or Oregon Health Plan and had been prior to the termination of the other coverage as a secondary. When we terminated the employer insurance I reported it to OHP but somehow it didn’t get reported properly. My child went to a well visit that should have been covered fully by OHP in February of 2021. OHP pushed it back stating that I had a primary insurance that needed to be billed first. I contacted OHP and had it properly reported (confirmed by several people) but the bill keeps getting rejected by OHP. I finally spoke with someone who told me to send the bill directly to the OHP Billing Team by mail, which I did. I have not heard from OHP despite sending it back in October and faxing it in November and mailing it again in December (overkill I know but faxing makes me anxious). The bill has now been sent to collections.
My question: How should I proceed? Do I dispute the debt? Should I pay it and hope that eventually I’ll get refunded? There is no reason why OHP wouldn’t cover this but how to I stop it from being reported on my credit report before we get it sorted out?
