HMO / PPO Referral Questions

Hello everyone! I have a few questions if anyone can help out:

I fractured my foot 7 weeks ago and have been seen at an urgent care since. Fracture has not healed and they said they would refer me to an orthopedic surgeon. The referral team called and said that I would have to get a referral from my PCP since my insurance is HMO.

I called my PCP and they can’t get me in for an appointment to get referral until Nov. 24, though the urgent care said I needed it within 7 days because my unhealed fracture is now free without a cast.

I am also covered under my parent’s PPO and could get the referral straight from the urgent care if that’s the insurance I choose to use, but not sure how much would be covered.

How do I find out how much either insurance would cover for a surgery?

Should I try use both insurances if I can get a referral from my PCP (in-network)?

Or should I try use just my parent’s insurance?

age: 24, income: $52,000 /year, zip code: 60609
