HMO Primary Doctor Question

I have had a cough and runny nose and sore throat for a few days and probably need to see a doctor.

My primary care provider works in a practice with 4 other physicians. Sometimes when my primary is out for continuing education or on a hospital rotation or vacation etc, another physician from the practice will be assigned to handle my appointment. When I schedule the appointment I am told this, it’s not like I go in expecting my doctor and another ends up seeing me.

Would this be covered by an HMO? I am not technically seeing my primary physician but am seeing another member of their practice. I know HMO’s are big on seeing the primary and getting referrals but how does this work in this context?
