Hey, so my health coverage was dropped due to non-payment (I got a new debit card and forgot to update my information). Unfortunately this means that I will not be covered for anything that took place since January 7th and will not have coverage again until February 1st. I was going through Covered CA, and my hospital is Kaiser Permanente.
I called Covered CA to see if I could get retroactive coverage which would cover me right now, but I learned today that my request was denied. This is very strange because I called them sometime around December to update my debit card info, and they said there was no need and that I was still covered.
What makes this so extremely frustrating is that I literally $2000 in my checking account right now and can get them the money at a moment’s notice.
I’m just horrified that until February 1st, what if I get sick, a major diagnosis, or get in a car accident? I don’t want to foot a $100,000 medical bill out of pocket. I mean, I have a $45,000 emergency fund but would definitely prefer to not have to use it.
It is now 7:12PM in California right now, and not only are Covered CA and Kaiser closed, but I’m 99% sure they’d be completely fucking useless if they were available.
What are my options???
