I’m from the US (obviously from the title lol) and have done medical billing for a few years. I recently was having a discussion with my partner about if the US went to a single payer health system my current job (prior authorization) would be useless/gone.
I disagreed only because if we took over a “Medicare for all” type of system, Medicare does require authorization for certain procedures and exams.
So my question really is to other countries – does a single payer system still require authorization for certain services or is that not a thing because everyone has the same coverage?
