TLDR: May change insurance when my baby is born in July. However I am unsure if the birth/ hospital fees will go onto my current or new insurance?
Hi all! I am going to be a first time mom and am an insurance noob for sure so please bear with me. I am due in July and am expecting to hit or get close to hitting my out of pocket max of 7k after the birth happens (including hospital fees, etc) My husband has better and cheaper insurance than I do so we are wanting to put the baby on his insurance. Additionally, I am considering being added on to his insurance as well depending on how the math works out so we would all be on a Family plan if that were to happen.
My question is: If me and my baby go on to my husband’s insurance at birth (since to my understanding birth is a qualifying life event), will the birth be billed to my current insurance or the new insurance? Since I estimate that I will be close to or actually hitting my out of pocket maximum after hospital, etc fees, it would be kind of nice for it to be billed to my current insurance so we wouldn’t have to start over as far as deductibles and out of pocket max goes, but I don’t know how these things work. If I stay on my current insurance and my baby is on my husband’s insurance, then how is that billed (maybe my portion goes to my insurance and my babies portion goes to my husband’s insurance?)
Thanks in advance!
