How is my new insurance better and cheaper than my old one?

I recently switched jobs and the health insurance at my old company was $402 per pay period for my husband and myself with the company contributing an almost $700. The insurance was awful, high deductible, 20/80 coinsurance on everything, and copays.

My new company is $250 per pay period for my husband and me with my employer contributing $500 and it’s fantastic. Low deductible and only copays on services.

Now I don’t quite know how companies handle insurance but my old employer was massive fortune 500 company with tens of thousands of employees while the new one has just over 100 employees. Even if my old company had unique coverage based on my department it would have still been for hundreds of employees. How does this make sense with the crappier insurance being more expensive?

The only thing I can think of is that my old company was not honest in what they are actually contributing to our plan or are getting massive tax breaks.
