How to successfully appeal to insurance to extend rehab stay?

My 73 y/o dad is currently in a physical therapy rehab for multiple complications related to an in hospital stay after receiving heavy chemo meds. He is currently unable to walk up stairs and is too weak to manage his own care. His Aetna insurance said they won’t cover him to stay past Sunday. He needs at least another week, most likely two weeks before he will be able to manage his own care. The facility said we could call and appeal for his insurance to extend his stay. He is making good progress and just needs a little longer.

What are some key words or phrases to use while calling to make this appeal successful? Any and all advice on this subject would be appreciated.
