How to use COBRA retroactively?

I just turned 26 and will be coming off of my parent’s health insurance at the end of the month ( they work for a company greater than 20 employees ). I need to go see an ENT as soon as I can, and I think there’s a decent chance there will be some charges coverable by my parent’s insurance. From what I understand I can just go now and if there is a charge that my parent’s insurance covers they will have to cover retroactively once I submit for COBRA.

What exactly do I need to do as far as my interactions with the doctor go? My insurance will be expired by the time I see them. Do I tell them to bill me and that I will get it covered with COBRA? Do I give them my expired insurance card? I’m just confused as to how I actually get my parent’s insurance to pay for something after it expires with COBRA, and is there anything specific I need to do before I go to the doctor?
