We have a high deductible health plan that covers only our annual wellness appointments. For all other appointments, we end up paying out of pocket.
This makes me wonder: Should we even be providing insurance information for appointments? Are the insurance-negotiated rates actually any better than what we’d get by saying we don’t have insurance and just negotiating self-pay?
The only benefit I can think of for providing our insurance info is that if we had a big year of medical costs, each charge would apply to our annual out of pocket max.
