I should have thought about this when planning out my finances for the year, but for some reason it didn’t occur to me to think about this. I had reached my deductible for the year several months ago and thought, cool, when I have my baby in November I’ll be set! But of course, as soon as you add your baby to your plan, it’s going to turn it into a family plan and double your deductible and out of pocket max. Now I have to pay an extra few thousand dollars I didn’t think to plan for, all because I had a baby at the end of the year. I wish it was at least prorated so I only owe the extra amount for the remaining month of the year… but no insurance company would ever do that.
There isn’t any way around this, right? I can’t not add my baby to my plan, especially since my work tells me I have to add her within 30 days of birth, and she has doctors appointments to go to. I just feel blindsided and kinda dumb for not considering this. Idk. Thanks for listening to my rant…
