I enrolled in benefits during open enrollment last year, which were supposed to take effect 01/01/22. I got married on 12/15/21 and submitted documentation on 01/04/22 (as soon as I received my marriage certificate), allowing me to make a life change.
Now, suddenly I have no insurance benefits. No health, no vision, no dental, no life, no legal plan, none of it. Not only that, but my spouse still is not covered by any of these plans. Because we got married in 2021, he should be retroactively covered effective 01/01/22. But instead, we now can’t use any of our benefits. When we call the plan providers, they say we don’t have active plans and we’ll need to contact my employer to have them enroll us in plans. I already submitted my enrollment elections online and they’re supposed to be active. When I look online, it says I’m covered for employee + spouse.
My HR department doesn’t have a number to call. I’ve submitted two cases for them to review, days ago, and they still haven’t responded. What should I do? We both need to schedule appointments and use our benefits, that we enrolled in and are paying for, but we have no benefits. The care providers won’t take our appointments and even if they did, we’re still uninsured and it would all be out of pocket.
I told my employer (when I submitted my HR cases for review) to please fix this IMMEDIATELY. If any physical and/or monetary damages are incurred as a result of their civil negligence, I (or my estate) will be suing them for the damages. My only guess is they’re manually processing the change and in the process of switching me over to plans that cover me in addition to my spouse, but that’s a big problem because it leaves us uninsured in the meantime.
