Background: I have an existing BCBS insurance plan that I purchased in 2009 it has been continuously maintained ever since and is basically grandfathered in from prior to Obamacare so the premiums are substantially lower than what is available through the marketplace current premium ~250 monthly and with much lower deductibles than can be purchased through insurance marketplace which I looked into and was ~465 monthly. I have recently become an employee for a state agency that includes a BCBS policy as a benefit. I do not intend to drop my 2009 policy because I can never purchase a policy at that rate again I intend to keep it as long as they will continue to allow me to do so. Both policies are held in Mississippi if that helps. QUESTION: How does co-insurance work?Does the secondary policy basically just pay the additional 20% not covered by the primary policy? Does that apply to both hospital stays and medications once the primary policy deductible is met? Do copays and deductibles even apply? Thank you in advance for assisting me with this it’s all rather confusing I’ve read all kinds of conflicting information on Google about this and am basically thoroughly confused at this point 😂.
