I just used my HSA to pay for a COVID test kit and had my insurance reimburse me for the purchase without realizing I am not allowed to do both. How would they know I did this?

I messed up.

I don’t feel I should have been charged sales tax and wasn’t even reimbursed for it.

Sounds like it’s a hassle to pay the HSA back for it. I gotta get a form and send a check? Why am I on the hook for sales tax though? Didn’t our taxes pay for the covid test kits already?

Edit: Walgreen’s is supposed to cover it with my insurance point-of-sale, but they keep giving me excuses like the machine is down that can process it.
