If I have some slight symptoms but also a strong family history regarding something, can it be switched to preventative rather than diagnostic?

I posted yesterday about my colonoscopy/endoscopy, but I don’t think I asked the right question.

I’m having some slight issues related to GERD, Esophageal inflammation, etc. My GI wants me to get an endoscopy/colonoscopy. The problem is that because I’m only 28 and I have symptoms, this is diagnostic. Meaning my insurance barely covers any of it.

However, I just realized that the main reason I went to the doctors instead of ignoring my symptoms is because my dad had polyps and GERD, my sister has GERD, and my other sister has post nasal drip. I didn’t tell my doctor this because he didn’t ask me about family history, and I didn’t think to.

Is there a way for me to have this switched to preventative instead of diagnostic? If so, how do I go about it?
