If pre-authorization for my insurance denies an MRI, can I still pay for one out of pocket?

I’m thinking about getting an MRI on my neck because I’ve been having this tension and achiness on my neck for a year. It won’t go away.

I have insurance. However, my insurance may deny it because they may deem it to not be medically necessary.

I really want to get one done.

There’s this imaging center not too far from my house, and they have their cash/credit prices listed on their site. They’re VERY affordable.

For an MRI of the Cervical spine w/o contrast they only charge $350.00. With contrast it’s $480.00.

I would still have to get a referral from my doctor because this place requires referrals. I have an HMO insurance plan.
