If someone doesn’t get back to work in a month, will they lose the job and insurance

This post is not specifically to an issue, but only for general understanding perspectives.

I am trying to understand the basics of the American insurance system. Hope you will help me understand it. Although I am not employed currently with a U.S. employer, but I have plans to.

I heard: If you actually get sick or need surgery & if you cannot return to work within a specific time frame, you lose your job AND health insurance. So you’re only valuable as long as you’re 100% well and return to work.

Am I understanding this correctly about the healthcare system? How do I bypass this dilemma (if someone is sick at that time) . .

EDIT: For example, if a person is employed and gets seriously sick with some long term disease, in order to gain back their employer based insurance they will have to get back to work, right? And if they quit, they won’t be covered. Please explain.
