I’m worried my friends parents are lying to her about being unable to have insurance so they don’t have to take her to the doctor

My friends is 18 living in South Carolina with her parents who don’t have a lot of money and are notoriously cheap and she has told me about them doing things in the past that I found very suspicious. So today she told me she was having chest pains and I told her to go to the doctor and she told me she didn’t have insurance and their was some law making it difficult to get it because she was 18 and it would be easier when she was 19. But I know she goes to see a psychiatrist and is prescribed multiple medications. And I know that under the Affordable Care Act she should be under her parents insurance until she turns 26. She doesn’t really know anything about insurance (she spelled it “incurseanance” for context) and just takes her parents word for it but I’m concerned they’re lying to her because they don’t want to pay for the appointment. It seems in character with something they would do based on what she’s told me about them in the past. She says there is a law that they need all this info about her because she’s 18 and they won’t need it when she’s 19.

Is their really some kind of law that would make it difficult for her to be on insurance at 18 in South Carolina? Facts I know that may be relevant: She sees a psychiatrist and is prescribed medications and she got the Moderna vaccine and booster. She has no underlying physical health problems. She has no job, basically no money or assets. She lives at home and goes to community college.

It would be one thing if her parents had her on no insurance at all because they were trying to save money but I know she sees a psychiatrist and is prescribed meds so surely she is on insurance and they’re not paying out of pocket especially considering I know they are extremely conscious of their spending. Which is why I’m worried they are lying to her. Her dad says the chest pain is just because she doesn’t exercise. I know that whenever someone has chest pain they should get it checked out just in case and am trying to urge her to do it but her parents are really good at guilting her into feeling like everything she does is a burden. Even if she really doesn’t have insurance she should still get it checked out. If they can afford to pay for her psychiatrist and meds out of pocket they can bring her to the doctor to check her heart.
