I’ve been having knee pain for about 6-8 weeks and figured I tore my meniscus. I went to the doctor who ordered an MRI and said to schedule it for a week out since the imaging center is in the same building and had to give my insurance time to approve it before I get it done.
I go in a week later and do the MRI as scheduled; the front desk didn’t say my insurance hadn’t given a response, approved, or denied the MRI and truthfully, I didn’t even think to ask since they went ahead with the procedure.
I do the MRI on a Saturday and the following Friday I get a letter in the mail saying my need for an MRI was not necessary as I have not had 6 weeks prior treatment without improvement. I am now concerned I will be asked to pay for the MRI since my insurance won’t cover it and it’s already been done. Is there a way to fight this in the case that I am asked to pay for the MRI out of pocket since the imaging center did the procedure without getting approval from my insurance first?
Also, in the fine print it says, “without 6 weeks of prior treatment, such as physical therapy, NSAIDS, or rest…” I have rested for 6 weeks and have taken anti inflammatory medication to no improvement.
Please advise
