In a clinical trial – got a big bill!

Hey Folks:

I got a bill for lab tests that were done as part of a clinical trial that I was being screened for. I was DQ’ed from the trial and then a month later I get a bill for over $500. I have signed consent forms that say that I would bear no cost for the trial whatsoever. The bill is $1130 and then there is a ‘self-pay discount’ that brings it down to $555. Maybe it’s a mistake but I am not sure what to do? Should I call the Dr? Should I call the office’s billing dept? Should I ignore it? Should I answer in writing? Also, could I submit this bill to my insurance company? If I fight and lose, maybe that’s a way to recoup some of my losses here.

Thanks for your advice and Happy T-Day!
